“The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can’t blow an uncertain trumpet.”
Reverend Theodore Hesburgh
Who was this man? Although this is an extremely brief commentary of his life, I see him as a person who exemplified the way we define sustainability today. A renowned scholar, he was the recipient of countless honors and awards, including 16 presidential appointments, “involving civil rights, peaceful uses of atomic energy, population, the environment, Third World Development and immigration reform”. All this, and he also served as a trustee and Chairman for the Rockefeller Foundation, and director for the Chase Manhattan Bank. He served as President of Notre Dame University for decades.
People, Planet, Profit. Reverend Hesburgh understood the integrated patterns of life; the unmitigated importance of innovative thinking, fiscal responsibility, developing people through equal access, and caring for our environment.
Look him up, he had an amazing life. Is your company blowing an uncertain trumpet? Let’s talk about your vision!
